About Charity

It was at the age of nine that Charity Williams watched her first horror movie: Jaws. And since then, she has watched every type of horror movie there is from campy slashers to elevated horror. Her love for the genre served as a means of escaping her reality and served as a way to overcome her fears. After all, the scariest things aren’t zombies or ghosts, they’re humans.

Through her love for the genre, she developed a passion to tell stories, specifically scary stories. The biggest hurdle was writing characters that looked like her in stories that mostly excluded her perspective. And that became her mission: to write the stories that she loved featuring more diverse characters. What if there were more black final girls and why is Candyman the only black horror icon? This is why October’s Harvest was created and self-published in 2020, and since then she has written other horror novels like The Witch’s Diary and Dark Dollar Tales Collection: Volume 1. Her upcoming novel, Scream for Me, is a teenage slasher that pays homage to beloved horror movie classics.

All of Charity’s stories feature minorities at the helm of a terrifying encounter. Charity’s stories will connect mostly to horror fans who want to read terrifying stories with minorities as the protagonists. Her hope is to inspire those horror fans who may not see themselves in the genre to feel like they belong in the world after reading her stories. Her stories explore themes of good versus evil, coming of age, and the struggle for identity. In facing the terrifying situations in her books, Charity hopes her readers will learn to face their sometimes confusing and terrifying real-world situations.

When Charity isn’t busy inserting minority characters into terrifying and fantastical adventures, she is probably binging on her favorite TV shows or walking her dog in the sweltering heat of Southwest Georgia. Her favorite horror movie to watch is Scream, and by far, the scariest book she’s ever read is Salem’s Lot by Stephen King.
